IMDB har ett något högre betyg från vanliga biotittare med ett snittbetyg på 6 av 10, baserat på nära 45 000 betygsättare.
En snabb granskning på Metacritic visar att bara nio recensenter valde att ge Jurassic World Dominion ett betyg som är positivt. Den absoluta merparten med 28 recensioner gav ett blandat betyg medan den negativa skalan har 22 recensioner. Ingen bra start för filmen alltså!
IMDB har en större skala vilket ger ett mer utspritt betyg. Merparten av betygsättarna gav filmen antingen en sexa eller sjua i betyg, båda har nära 20 procent av alla betyg. The effects, which once again mix animatronics with computer graphics, are serviceable if unremarkable, lacking the awe (and indeed the heft) that made Spielberg’s original such a nail-biting game-changer. As for composer Michael Giacchino, he seems to have the mundane measure of it all, trowelling on the “piano-says-sad/strings-say-exciting” motifs in solidly indifferent workaday fashion. Ho hum.

There’s no need to rehash the cynical, diminishing-returns vampirism of these things—Dominion revisits enough old ideas on its own. Anyway, the irony is plenty evident already: don’t try to revive what long ago met its natural end, these films warn with an increasing lack of self-awareness. The results may be intermittently fulfilling, but ultimately they’ll lay waste to everything we once held dear.

Everything that happens at BioSyn goes more or less according to the “Jurassic” playbook. Still, it’s fun to see Dern and Neill together again on-screen, and Goldblum is great at making doomsday sound like a done deal. Trevorrow packs the movie with sly winks to the earlier films, plus “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and other Spielberg movies, and he commits to staging many of the dino interactions the way the master once did, by blending practical, animatronic critters with state-of-the-art CGI.

We grind through scene after scene after scene after SCENE of the various characters screaming and running and narrowly avoiding getting swallowed alive by all manner of howling and screeching CGI dino-creatures, with the occasional pause so someone can do a little quipping or give us some exposition, and then it’s back to the running and the screaming and the poorly framed and edited action sequences.

When “Dominion’s” final 20 minutes play as a beat-for-beat re-creation of previous films’ set pieces, it becomes clear that Trevorrow and Co. have nothing new to say. In a welcome sliver of self-aware shtick, the movie at least allows Goldblum to sum up the state of the franchise: “Jurassic World? Not a fan.”

Masochism is Jurassic World Dominion’s only pleasure. Like its colon-free title, the film fucks up what seems to be the easiest thing in the world. If I had a kid who loved dinosaurs and who I hated, I would take them to see Jurassic World Dominion, because it makes dinosaurs so deeply uncool.

Dominion feels like a contractual obligation at best, and a D.O.A. attempt to wring one last drop out of an already depleted brand at worst. At one point, a T. Rex wanders into a scene and surveying everything around him, throws back his head and let’s a long howl of rage. Had he done that for over two hours, he would have known exactly how we felt.
